News Stories about the Cumberland County Democrats

It's been a great summer.  We started it off with an eight-county rally in June, with U.S. Senate candidates Bob Tuke, Kenneth Eaton, and Mike Padgett as the featured event.  We were also thrilled to have Major Graham of Crossville welcome us and well as getting the Governor's greetings from Commission Jim Fyke of the Department of Environment and Conservation.  Congressman Lincoln Davis gave his perspective on the national scene and how he has steadfastly represented the special concerns of his district.  We were pleased to welcome Becky Ruppe, the County Executive in Morgan county, who is the Democratic candidate for the State Senate seat from our neighboring district.  She is a dynamic and energetic candidate and there is much interest in supporting her candidacy.   We had the chance to hear again from our Assessor candidate Idel Brown and from the two candidates for the 2nd District Commission seat, Robert Safdie and Tom Isham.  All in all, it was a great event and we hope to make it an annual one.  Thanks to all the folks, both in Cumberland and surrounding counties that helped make this a success.

Fairfield Glade was able to have a booth at the annual 4th of July Arts and Crafts Fair for the first time this year.  There was the usual large turnout for the event but a lot of good response to the booth.  We'll be back next year.

We held an Early Voting rally on the Courthouse on July 18th with over two hundred people attending.  The Democratic Women served over 150 meals before the food ran out.  The interest and enthusiasm for Democratic candidates remains high in Cumberland County.

The Democratic Women's picnic was held in late July at Cumberland Mountain State Park.  Again, we were blessed with the presence of Congressman Davis, the three U.S. Senate candidates, Bob Tuke, Kenneth Eaton, and Mike Padgett and were addressed by Idel Brown and Robert Safdie.  Mike McWherter, Governor McWherter's son and a potential candidate for Governor himself, was a special visitor.  Over 200 people enjoyed the fellowship.
